Social Mediation at the Centre for Rule of Law and European Values (CRoLEV)
The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on the Rule of Law and European Values(CRoLEV) ran for a total of three years, from 2022 to 2025, during which period ICLAIM co-organised a series of three workshops aiming towards Civil Society empowerment.
Previous experience through Social Mediation projects stood at the core of Workshop 1 delivered in December 2022, which investigated the relevance of non-formal dispute resolution initiatives to the sustaining of the Rule of Law.
This was followed by Workshop 2 in November and December 2023, which was organised with the collaboration of the Council of Europe Participatory Democracy Academy, and introduced a number of tools on Participatory Democracy developed by the Council of Europe as a means to strengthen democratic participation and civil engagement.
Lastly, Workshop 3 in March 2025 turned towards the examination of recent trends in Deliberative Democracy, and the powerful impact of Public Assemblies.
These interactive workshops brought together insights from all participants, who also provided feedback on how this informal and semi-formal processes can benefit democratic dialogue in Cyprus and beyond. All details are now available and easily accessible through the Toolkit for Citizen Empowerment, which was developed upon the completion of all workshop and which contains detailed information on the activities and the conclusions reached.
