Publication of Report on Social Mediation and the Strengthening of Rule of Law in Cyprus (SOMEROL)

Following the successful completion of the SOMEROL project in the first half of 2023, the University of Central Lancashire in Cyprus (UCLan Cyprus), the Cyprus Peace and Dialogue Centre (CPDC) and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Law, Alternative and Innovative Methods (ICLAIM) proudly present the SOMEROL Report, which summarises the main findings from the deliberations that took place during all activities under the project. The project was inspired by the preceding award-winning projects on Social Mediation undertaken by ICLAIM and UCLan Cyprus since 2018.

The project invited individuals who have been actively participating in the strengthening of inter-communal relations on the island, through initiatives at the grass-roots level and/or as public officials. Bringing together the varying experiences and points of views of a large number of professionals and volunteers who have long-engaged with the Cyprus Question, the project has identified cross-cutting issues that prevent the collaboration between all communities on the island, and collected a pool of suggestions to strengthen the Rule of Law across institutions and offer guidance for future policy-making initiatives.

Apart from a full detailed report, the project team has also produced a summary of the report available in English, Turkish and Greek.

The SOMEROL project was supported by the British High Commission in Nicosia:
